As I choose to live in a small town, I understand that in a shrinking economy I must reach a broader audience. This is a bit tough for a confirmed luddite! .... Hence this site.
I served an 8,000 hour apprenticeship, worked at hand binderies in Auckland and London and attended evening classes with David Sellars and Sally Lou Smith in the 1980's. I've been self-employed since 1988, moving to Oamaru in 1994.
My main vocation is restoration, but I also accept commissions for expressive bindings and with help from my mother and friends, my bindery also produces an extensive range of craft bindings off the shelf.
I teach students and offer accommodation. Wide media coverage has helped to bring in work and I hope, has shown that it is possible to live a better life following a meaningful craft, whilst interacting with others.
