Maximum 6 students, Minimum 4.

Fee   $30.00 per student per class.

Block Courses

I  offer tuition to the novice or raw beginner in all aspects of traditional hand bookbinding. Eventually a student may aspire to transfer to the advanced students course working individually on their own projects.

Beginning with paper theory in lesson one the mysteries of paper grain and folding will be revealed. Occasionally written notes will be issued along with light hearted anecdotes and much hands-on work. Essentially I am offering a slow apprenticeship.

Usually a class is held one evening a month.  Hours:  6 - 9 pm.

Maximum 6 students, Mimimum 4.

Fee   $30.00 per student per class.

Old Fashioned Apprenticeships

In this modern world, I have yet to see it work. I myself was apprenticed to the Bindery Department at Auckland Public Libraries, and completed my 8,000 hour term. Five other binders and their assistants 'carried' the apprentice and thereby spread the cost of my education.

As a self-employed binder, the apprentice must be self-funded and essentially pay to learn.

Conditions need to be negotiated by correspondence.
